Morty McCarthy remembers the first time he met one of the Gallagher brothers. It was February 1992, and the Cork man and his band, the Sultans of Ping, were playing at the Boardwalk venue in Manchester.

A local lad by the name of Noel popped up during the soundcheck to say hello. He’d been rehearsing in one of the other rooms with an unsigned group he said were called ‘Oasis’, and knew a bit about the Cork scene as he'd previously worked as a roadie with another Leeside band of the era, the Frank and Walters
