Senator calls for tests for young tractor drivers

Between 2020 and 2024, there were 28 vehicle-related fatalities on Irish farms, 12 of them linked directly to tractors.
The practice of 16-year-olds being allowed to drive “monstrosities of tractors” without any training was highlighted in the Senate on Friday.
Senator Paul Daly, who raised the issue, called for the introduction of tractor driving tests and training for those drivers who currently can just apply for a provisional licence without any training.
